It is our goal at The Seed Program to provide youth with the support needed to beat the odds. The Seed Program facilitates sessions that are rooted in social, emotional, and educational development. During these sessions, students participate in socio-emotional activities to promote empowerment and healing. In addition, we provide youth with a safe space on campus to establish healthy relationships with college-educated mentors and peers. We believe that promoting a student's overall well-being and development is often the key to unleashing students' academic potential.
Students regularly engage with staff to build stable, supportive relationships with caring adults on campus. These staff members, who share similar experiences, serve as role models and mentors, offering guidance for personal growth. They provide academic help, including tutoring and homework assistance, and support with college preparation, including applications and financial aid for foster youth. Additionally, staff assist with transitional planning, helping students create plans for school, career, and independent living success.
At each session, we facilitate socioemotional development and life skills workshops that cover various topics including financial literacy, goal planning, and self-care, all aimed at equipping foster youth with the vital tools they need for success. Our curriculum is designed to empower foster youth with practical knowledge and strategies that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities they may encounter throughout their lives.
Our Student Resource Fund provides assistance to students for essential school-related needs that may not be fully supported by their foster families. This fund ensures that students have access to resources necessary for their academic and extracurricular success, such as sports equipment, school supplies, and fees for school activities. This fund helps foster a sense of inclusion and allows students to fully participate in the opportunities available to them.
The Seed Program is more than just a support group; it’s a family. We build a sense of belonging through annual traditions such as celebrating holidays together, hosting an End-of-Year Gala to honor our graduating seniors, and creating personalized birthday celebrations for each student. These events foster community and ensure every student feels valued.
